![]() She looks confused for a brief moment and then another horror covers her face because she senses the real reason they’re ok: Kylo made the sacrifice. She’s not in a position where she can protect them herself, and as she looks over in horror and helplessness, she sees that they are made safe. So basically, I’d picture them all in battle and Rey can see/sense the impending doom of her friends. ![]() If anything, I’d also love a reverse scene of that where Rey is willing to go against the resistance (if they’re in the wrong) to protect Kylo/Ben from them. I think they’ll want to keep up with the “Rey can save herself” sort of theme…especially since He technically protected Rey from Snoke by killing him instead of her. Even if he died for Rey.Įspecially since Kylo/Ben viewed Finn as a traitor and also sliced him up. He also killed Han and so I don’t see any way of Rey’s friends forgiving so easily. Kylo/Ben is basically hated and feared by all their friends. In fact, whatever her feelings for Ben/Kylo, i feel like she would still put them first.Ģ. Rey loves her friends and would do anything for them. Going along with what you’re saying, I wonder it would be even more redemptive and moving if Kylo/Ben sacrifices himself protecting Rey’s friends rather than her? Like Finn, Chewie, and Rose…etc?ġ. I think this is a very interesting and plausible analysis for what is to come. TLJ blatantly states this in the FUCKING DIALOG. ![]() Star was tells you to fight for what you love, not just fight what you hate. ![]() That’s how we’re going to win, not fighting what we hate, but saving what we love. The whole point of every Star Wars movie to LOVE > HATE. Let the past die, kill it if you have to. And the hate is why he once again fails to gain Rey’s favor. Kylo/Ben made more positive choices in TLJ, but still fails to get what he truly wants, because he’s driven my hate more than he is by love. Kylo/Ben then makes the RIGHT moral choice by not killing his mother, but despite saving Rey, he still kills Snoke out of hate. Kylo makes the WRONG moral choice in TFA by killing his father, and fails to gain Rey. I’ll go into this in more depth in my longer meta. Here’s the base of his character growth, and personal journey since we started. So to understand where his character is heading, we need to review where he’s been so far. In this case it must be used because the only way Kylo can be redeemed is to die for it. I think honestly this line of story telling is pretty likely, and I’m really glad you brought this up because it wouldn’t have occurred to me! So let’s talk about it.įaux death (as I’ll call it), can be used in media for several different reasons. Essentially meaning they’ve made the ultimate sacrifice but, they get to live by the grace of the audience. ![]() The resurrection trope forces a character to repent for what they’ve done by giving their life. They’re both presented in the same framing, one literal death, and the other metaphorical. His life as Darth Vader is portrayed as return from death when put parallel with Padme. That’s how Darth Daddy’s return after Obi cuts his legs off and leaves him to burn to death. We’ve had themes of resurrection before in Star Wars. That’s a very interesting take, I hadn’t thought about that. Okay fair warning, this turned into a meta. ![]()
